A Private Ranch in The Midst of Transformation
The legendary Home Ranch, historically run as a guest ranch, is now a private working cattle ranch and is CURRENTLY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. The Home Ranch will open in the Summer of 2023 for a limited number of exclusive corporate & special events (to be announced). Located 17 miles from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, the ranch is based in the heart of Elk River Valley, beside the banks of the wild and scenic Elk River, with the storybook crest of Hahn’s Peak to the North, the majestic peaks of the Mount Zirkel Wilderness to the East, and the purple mountain majesty of the Sand Mountains to its West. The ranch is currently undergoing a soulful and inspiring revival. Closed while undergoing renovations, the ranch is not taking reservations or public visits at this time. The Farm Comes Alive
Under the vision, care and nurturing of Horticulture Manager, Courtney Lynn, The Farm at Home Ranch is developing a comprehensive gardening program that’s been re-envisioned to feed the North Routt community and its visitors. The young team of passionate gardeners aims to expand your palate and engage your taste buds with dozens of new varieties of greens, roots, squash, beans, tomatoes, peppers, and much more. The new Farm Stand also opened in 2020.

~ Holistic Range Management ~
The Ranch
Holistic Management is an ecologically minded approach to ranching that helps land managers, farmers, ranchers, and environmentalists develop strategies for managing herds of domestic horses and livestock. This is based on a practice that mimics ancient wild herds in a manner that heals degraded soils, improves ecosystem function, and builds biodiversity in grasslands. Under the leadership of ranch manager Michael Moon, the Home Ranch is practicing this science in managing its land and livestock.

While the ranch is not currently open to the public, the Home Ranch horses, horsemanship, and holistic range management program is currently undergoing a robust renewal under the ranch management of Michael Moon and his team of excellent wranglers and ranch hands.Β

Colorado Fly Fishing
The Home Ranch is an alpine Fly-Fishing paradise with about three miles of the Elk River flowing through the property. “The Elk” is a classic rocky mountain freestone river that supports abundant populations of wild rainbow, brown, brook, and cutthroat trout.

About us
The family of Scott and Janet McFarlane purchased the historic Home Ranch in Northern Routt County, Colorado in 2019 and are delighted to be the new owners of this legendary property in the Elk River Valley. βI think the moment we drove into Steamboat, up the highway and up the driveway, we all knew this was going to be our unanimous choice,β McFarlane said. βThe historic barn with the snow covered Zirkels in the background and 70 horses grazing was enchanting.β Their vision for the next chapter of the Home Ranch is inspiring, original, and currently underway.
