The Home Ranch cattle operation specializes in breeding highly valued Akaushi beef cattle (the most cherished of the four Japanese cattle breeds collectively known as Wagyu) with one of America’s top beef breeds: Red Angus. Free range and grass fed for life, our signature American Wagyu breed produces exceptionally marbled beef recognized for its excellent cooking and eating quality – and the Elk River Valley’s nutrient rich alpine grasses give this unique beef a higher percentage of heart-healthy monounsaturated Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty than traditionally-raised American beef. These health and quality benefits, combined with lower-stress and eco-positive range management practices, make Home Ranch cattle a breed apart in the American beef industry. Buy Home Ranch Grass-Fed Beef here on our website and we’ll deliver the highest standard of American beef right to your front door.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is American Wagyu?

American Wagyu is a cross between Akaushi cattle (the most coveted of the Japanese Wagyu breeds) and Red Angus cattle. This allows for delicious well marbled beef that doesn’t cost as much as pure wagyu, and finishes nicely on grass.

How are they raised?

Our akaushi angus crosses are grass fed their whole lives, on our ranches. They roam around the pastures, and are moved rotationally using an electric fence so that no area is grazed too much, and the pastures all get plenty of rest. They gain weight over two years, finishing on the green grass of the Elk River valley. They are processed at Fitch Ranch Artisan Meats in Craig, Colorado. Just an hour down the road.

Why grass finished?
Grass finished beef is the most natural way to feed cows. It allows the cows to follow a diet that ruminants are meant to eat, and utilize land that otherwise wouldn’t be productive for farming. The cows have spacious pastures and a variety of plant species to pick from. By grass finishing the meat itself is also higher in omega 3’s and lower in saturated fats. More resources on this can be found at https://sustainabledish.com/ and https://www.goodmeatbreakdown.org/
Do you use antibiotics?

The overuse of antibiotics is a serious problem in livestock. However, minimal targeted use can save an animal’s life, and improve animal welfare. At the Home Ranch we only use antibiotics to treat debilitating conditions or to save the animal’s life. If they do have to be used on an animal, that animal is taken out of our beef program. Meaning, any of our beef that you receive has not received antibiotics in its lifetime.

Is the meat frozen?

Yes. The meat is dry aged for 14 days, before being cut and wrapped, and then immediately frozen. Frozen meat can last in the freezer for a long time, but try to eat it all by next summer, just in time for our next harvest!

How is the meat shipped?

The beef will be shipped in a 14″x14″x14″ box, with a high quality liner, ice packs, and dry ice. As soon as you receive your package, please unbox it into the freezer. While you might not see any dry ice remaining, as long as the meat is cold to the touch the quality has not diminished. We ship your box out on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid shipping delays, so it will get to you in 2-4 days.

What if I want to pick up my beef?

If you are in the Clark/Steamboat area, or just want to come for a visit, we can happily organize a pick up time. Once your pick up order is placed a staff member will be in contact with you via phone or email to organize a time for you to come to the Home Ranch to pick up your box.
